Returning from World of Concrete Show
You wouldn’t know the economy is having a problem if you attended the concrete show this week. It was packed and many of the exhibitors were reporting good sales – especially some of the larger equipment makers. Now, it might be they were putting me on a bit but one of the vendors shared their unit sales with me and they were impressive. We didn’t exhibit at World of Concrete and probably won’t next year. We find it a great show for learning more about concrete technologies and ways for us to provide a better experience for our customers. One of the things that struck me at the show was that there were fence companies, mold companies, material suppliers and so forth - but none of those things alone make a great concrete fence company or guarantee a good product and experience for the customer.
Anyone can buy precast concrete forms (some awfully bad ones and some terribly expensive ones!), and anyone can call themselves a fence company but it takes a lot more than that to be the kind of company that customers ultimately desire. We’re specialists in designer concrete fencing and walls that look like wood, brick, and stone. We make the molds, we make the product at a National Precast Concrete Association Certified plant and we ship that to installers or we also do the installation.
To make all that happen requires a level of sophistication, professionalism, expertise and service orientation that few can deliver. That is what sets us apart. I think that is why major national brands and large national and regional construction firms are coming to us more and more. They trust us and they like working with us. At the end of the day, they want to know that they can count on us and if we meet or exceed that expectation then we become an invaluable partner for years to come.

Are You A Fence Company or A Concrete Mold Company?
The fact is we are both. Artisan Precast is primarily a concrete fence company but we are more than that. Yes, we do have a terrific reputation for installing beautiful concrete walls and fences. But we also sell our material to others - fence companies, contractors, cities, homeowners and others who install the product themselves. But, we also design and manufacture our own concrete molding systems which sets us apart from others. In our facility we design, develop and manufacture concrete molding systems for our own use to make our beautiful precast walls and fences. In certain cases, we sell those molds to companies in other countries who want to replicate our concrete fence product in their markets. We think that making our own molds gives us a better understanding of the product and makes us better at what we do as a fence company. It also means we always have the latest and best molds to produce a superior looking product. It also means that selling molds is not primarily what we do - our primary focus is providing a superior concrete fence product to the market. So, if someone wants to buy molds from us, it’s not a hard sell. We think the concrete forms we make are the best in the market and offer the user the most flexible concrete fencing system available at a fair price. So, if that is important to the buyer then we have what they need. But our mold business is not driven by sales of molds but rather by creating and making molds that work for us as a fence company. Because at the end of the day we want to be known by our friends and clients as having the best looking, most cost effective, fastest-to-assemble fencing system in the market.

Fencing That Installs Quickly and Is Very Durable
One of the many advantages of concrete walls and fences is that certain systems install very quickly. I am not talking about these massive precast panels weighing thousands of pounds that you see on highways and the like. I am talking about post-and-panel systems like that offered by Artisan Precast. These systems assemble quickly because the components are easily handled by 2 or 4 person crews and you do not need to trench the entire foundation as you do with typical concrete block walls. These post-and-panel systems require that footings or piers be dug at typically 5 foot intervals into which posts are set. These footings are then filled with ready mix concrete and rebar and once the concrete sets the panels are slid into place. These post-and-panel systems have the added advantage of easy replacement in the event of damage. Folks, installing this fence is a no-brainer.

Precast Concrete for Shopping Centers
I received a call from a very large shopping center developer asking if precast concrete fencing could be used to wrap his center. I was a bit puzzled because this product has been used for years for shopping center applications (I drove by one today) and it is ideal. The reason post and panel type precast fencing is so appropriate is that it can be purchased in stone, wood, brick and other natural patterns and is easy to work with regardless of height. These fences (you can see them at www.artisanprecast.com) look great, they are cost effective and they install very fast. It gives a very expensive look to a center for a fraction of what real brick and stone would cost. More and more architects are discovering this alternative and they like it. Unlike some monolithic precast concrete slab walls which tend to look overly manufactured and cold, post and panel precast looks hand crafted and warm. You can also buy these precast concrete walls and fences in a variety of colors to match your project.

We Also Sell Our Concrete Fence Materials to Fence Contractors
We do quite a bit of business with fence contractors and contractors in general all over the country. Sometimes they contact us to do the install because their architect specified our concrete fence on a project and they are not familiar with the system. Other times we are contacted to help determine their needs for a specific project and we ship the material to the job site and they do the install. I thought it was important to write this down as many fence companies don’t know that we can sell them the product and they can bid on jobs. And if they aren’t familiar enough with the system, time to install, equipment needed, concrete calculations, etc., we can help. Our end goal is to help customers build great walls and fences that look great and are well-priced. Our precast concrete walls and fences are manufactured with molds that we design and build - this ensures a great end product that people will get to enjoy for decades to come.

Concrete Fences - Benefits of precast concrete
Most of the times when you think of a fence you think of wooden fences or metal fences that you always see. However, what you may not know is that many of those fences that look wooden are actually made out of precast concrete. Precast concrete fences can be the best type of fence to use, especially when considering the use of the fence. Precast concrete fences are very easy to install and can take the look of virtually any type of fence.
Precast concrete fences will have steel rods that are used to ensure the maximum security. This means that concrete fences that are made with precast concrete will be reliable and functional, plus they will strengthen over time. They require little maintenance, but are very easy to erect and deconstruct. If you put up a precast concrete fence but decide to change it around, it can be done with ease. Although precast concrete is heavy, it requires no machinery to install, making it a good choice for anyone who wants quick and easy installation.
By using the precast concrete for your fences you will be able to get a good fence that is unique and modern. You will also be able to get more privacy when you build a precast concrete fence and it acts as a sound barrier. Not only that, but precast concrete is not Ultraviolet sensitive, meaning that over time the look of a precast concrete fence will remain intact. It will not fade or become weathered as fences made of other materials will. Using precast concrete for your fences also gives you the freedom to choose different lenghts of panels. Most of the panels range from two to twelve feet. This allows you the freedom to pick out different lengths, but ensures consistency throughout the fence.
Next time you pass what looks like a wooden fence, take a long look. Most likely its not wood at all, but precast concrete.

Why It Is A Good Idea To Use Precst Concrete For Fences
Why would you want to use concrete fences for your home or your business? You can see concrete fences wherever you go. However, not everyone knows why it is better to use the precast concrete fences over any other type of fence. You will obviously need to decide which type would work better for what you need. So here are some reasons why the precast concrete fences are better than fences built with other materials that are available.
First off, with concrete fences you will be able to put a fence up that can be as small as two feet or you can go as high as twenty feet. So height will definitely not be a problem when using precast concrete for fences. Secondly, precast concrete fences are easier to install than any other type of fence. They will be made at the factory, delivered to the site where it will be installed and then it is just a matter of putting it together and getting it set up. The ease of which concrete fences can be constructed and maintained is a huge reason why many people choose precast concrete for their fencing needs. Finally, when you use a concrete fence you will not have to worry about it wearing out or having to replace it. These fences will not get worn down by the sun, weather, fire or chemicals because they have been made to withstand all of that. Plus the precast concrete fences will last in excess of 100 years so you won’t have to replace it during a lifetime.
These are just a few of the advantages of using the precast concrete fences. You will have to decide for yourself which type of fence you want to use but you definitely will not go wrong with using precast concrete.

Fencing, Fires and Logic
Some of you may have seen my letters to the editor in various California papers. The subject was questioning the logic of allowing fences and walls to be constructed in high fire danger areas of the state constructed of plastic, wood and other flammable materials. Thank goodness we have evolved in our technology for fencing to the point where we can use beautiful precast solutions to meet various wall and fence needs. The interesting thing about post and panel precast concrete wall systems is that many of them are rated for earthquake and hurricane zones as well. The engineering of these systems helps them survive quakes and wind loads up to 140 mph! On top of that, they look great and they don’t use precious materials like petroleum and wood.

Concrete Walls For Fireproof Barriers
Well, if the recent tragic events around California prove anything, it’s that we need to remember that we need to remember that a vast swath of California is a semi-arid desert (thank you to my high school biology teacher). And that means that not only can fires happen but that they will happen. Which makes it astounding to me that wood, plastic and other materials are allowed to be used in constructing walls and fences. The great advances that have been made with architectural concrete enables anyone to have an affordable and beautiful way to wrap their properties – whether it’s a commercial, residential, civic or industrial application. I can’t help but wonder what would have been the outcome if more homes and other structures had used our precast concrete walling system rather than plastic/vinyl or wood. Here is a picture of one of those “inexpensive’ plastic fences – of course the cost of replacement wasn’t factored into the original purchase decision. Concrete walls are fireproof and can provide an effective firebreak to fires versus wood and plastic
